Hi,
This would be helpful. Our approach to CC is that it is a voluntary licence
which people can use, if they want, to facilitate their work being used. It
works within existing copyright law and does not undercut or threaten
commercial revenues. But it is misunderstood by many people in the UK,
partly because of CC's US politics and partly because of its (deliberately?)
low profile over here. In my experience most government bodies such as IPAC
and the DTI/DCMS forum are weighted towards commercial (investor and
distributor) interests rather than creator/user interests and therefore have
little interest in public interest licensing schemes. Any action to
re-balance the discussion would be welcome. The IP Charter project team
will be holding a debate on the principles behind CC and other similar
licences in February 2005.
