Oh I see. My answer to that - given the excellence in the wording of the Wellington Declaration - is that CC international most certainly SHOULD take it on in their scope - but its easy for me to say as I am not involved in any of the CC projects, simply a practitioner.

It seems to me that CC information materials, its leading spokesperson, and the culture of its body obviously aligns with the Declaration, and if ACTA is a key player in copyright and intellectual property around the world, then getting the issues that CC International cover into that arena is an important part of the scope.

BTW, is there an ANZ-CC list I should be on?

Hi Leigh,

Yes of course I know you! Good to hear from you....

I guess what I asking was "Should the mission and scope of each Creative Commons project be sufficiently wide enough to encompass activities like publicACTA in it's everyday business?"

As you probably know, by shifting our CC project to a new 'host' organisation, we're in a process of planning our growing structure and revisiting our scope. I'd like to keep CC's activities as wide as possible, and was wondering whether other CC projects around the world would have considered working on something like publicACTA as an appropriate activity they would take up with their CC swords blazing.

My answer to that was "I'm unsure".

Best,

Jane

Hi all,

I've realised that I hadn't yet posted any encouragement yet for
people on the list to sign the Wellington Declaration on the ACTA
negotiations which was created last weekend here in Wellington
http://publicacta.org.nz/ (Thanks Jessica Coates for reminding me!).

While Creative Commons Aotearoa New Zealand was not officially
represented on the PublicACTA organising 'committee', at the event
itself or in the signing of the petition, I was personally involved in
each of these activities.

I'd be interested to see if any other CC jurisdictions claim support
on these issues on behalf of CC, and if so, should CCANZ do this?
Thoughts? I guess it's a question of scope for each jurisdiction
project.....

Jane

Hello Jane,

I'm in Canberra now (was at Otago Polytechnic in case you forget me)..

Anyway, just wanted to say how impressed I am with the Wellington Declaration. A document that brings clarity, and I hope will pick up momentum enough to see we Australian's doing the same. I am not yet networked much with any Australian's working on CC projects - particularly in education. Needless to say I am beginning a lobby with University of Canberra, am yet to see where that might lead.

I'm not sure I understand your question however.. I'd be interested to see if any other CC jurisdictions claim support
on these issues on behalf of CC, and if so, should CCANZ do this?

Could you expand that, so I can know better what you're asking?

Regards
Leigh
