Though we can't crow too much - Otago Polytech's still got a much better open
access policy than QUT.

It's a research project funded by the ARC Centre of Excellence for
Creative Industries and Innovation (CCi) here at Queensland University
of Technology (yes - it's a mouthful, I know).

Basically, it's how we've found money to do CC work. We are funded to do
research and educational activities on CC and other OCL projects - we
produce papers, speak at conferences and festivals, answer public
enquiries, advise implementers, do joint projects with people like the
National Library - anything we can to investigate and promote CC in
Australia. Oh, and we run an undergraduate research unit here at QUT.

We've got info on the CCau (http://creativecommons.org.au) and the CCi
(http://www.cci.edu.au) websites.

Sticking my nose in from CCau - Larry is a great speaker, and without
question the most important and high profile figure in the CC community.

He's also very supportive of the jurisdiction projects, and I'm sure
he'd be happy to try to do something for you if he was in the country.
It would be a great publicity opportunity.

We're wondering if we can steal him on the way through.

Fair enough - but it isn't just an IT story - my frustration isn't
with the IT guys , it's with the heritage and knowledge institutions who
have , to date, not got behind the potential of the CC ..

We might be able to leave it to the IT community in general to leverage
this visit.

Our department's IT guy stopped me in the corridor last week to ask what
LIANZA was and where the conference was going to be and could other
people attend. Apparently the news had been buzzing already about
Lessig's visit ...

LIANZA , the Library Association folks, have just announced they have
secured Larry Lessig as their last keynote.
I have blogged about this - and, inter alia , make the point that we
need to be doing a lot more to get the CC message out - and that
mainstream knowledge institutions, and collaboration frameworks like
www.matapihi.org.nz, have a major role to play in making some of this
happen ..

My blog : www.peoplepoints.co.nz

Lianza blog with the announcement
http://www.poropitia.blogspot.com/

Would appreciate any thoughts /comments on how we can leverage the visit
?
