Christ gives his apostles the power of miracles,
he tells them to go out to the lost sheep of Israel
and preach to them, perform miracles, and freely give
people the Holy Spirit that the apostles freely received.
10:8 are Christ's specific instructions to his apostles
on what to do while preaching to the lost sheep of Israel:
"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers,
cast out devils: freely have you received, freely give."
He tells them to give the Holy Spirit freely to everyone
who would receive it.
I have no idea what this has to do with a copyright license.
Or raising the dead.
Certainly, one could craft a copyright license that allows
gratis exchange, but Christ was talking about giving people
the Holy Spirit freely, not things, or works, or labors,
or intellectual property.
He gave the Holy Spirit to the Apostles, and he what the
apostles to give the Holy Spirit to everyone else.
He isn't admonishing you or me to use a Public Domain
copyright license.
In 10:9-10, he tells his apostles about to set out on
their mission of miracles: "Do not possess gold, nor
silver, nor money in your purses: ... for the workman
is worthy of his meat." which seems to indicate that
they are to go out, with no money, and work for their
food and shelter as they need it.
But his instructions are specifically to his apostles
within whom he gave the power to perform miracles,
including raising the dead, and he told them to
perform miracles, raise the dead, heal the sick,
and give the Holy Spirit freely to anyone who would
receive it.
I don't think Creative Commons should
draft a Gratis License because of Matthew 10:8.
