Is there a manual for BL I floundered around in my hard drive installation of BL but could not locate a manual, It might be staring me in the face but I don't see it (purblind :-) )

A list of commands available in BL along with a brief description of usage

Read about shell commands, for bash (BL3 uses something similar).
ls (or dir in BL, to help beginners)
cd
rm
etc.

cd /
ls

Will list all the available directories in the main (root) directory,
including /root which is a directory in the 'root' directory which is'not the directory called 'root'.

ls /cd shows what is in the directory /cd.
If you have nothing mounted at that point there will be nothing in i.

BL is based on Slackware and has a similar structure. Other linuxes
are a bit different. Some have rpm packages or deb packages. Slackware has tgz packages. There are tools to convert them.

You can unpack a tgz with tar -zxvf package.tgz, or just look inside
with tar -ztvf package.tgz (put | less after that command to keep it
all from scrolling by).

Feel free to ask here too.

I searched on 'intro to slackware' and got
http://www.slackbook.org
Try also 'slackware tutorial'.

Thanks Sindi. I tried some of those shell commands and I am beginning to even remember some of them . Almost back to DOS :-)

I looked at one listing of shell commands. There are seven pages of them, closely typed yet. I will be learning those for the rest of my life. Thank goodness, I am not getting ready to apply for a job :-)
