The operating system sits on those ramdisks.
Once the system boots, it is not possible to
change the size of those ramdisks.

There is 1.3mb of free space on the BL3 ramdisk.
There is an older version of mc (320kb) available
at the BL1 site. It should work on BL3.

The executable in the BL3 mc is much bigger (710kb),
but even that could fit in the ramdisk. However,
you would need to unpack mc.tgz (on a different
system), pull out the executable and put it on
a floppy disk.

Installing to HD is the best option. Even a 20mb
partition can be useful. Alternatively, if you
are running DOS or Windows 95/98, you could use
the DOS version of BL3.

Yes. The maximum size ramdisk that the BL3 kernel
can handle is 4mb. Use the following commands to
create a new 4mb ramdisk:
---------------------------------------------
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/ram2 bs=1k count=4096
mke2fs /dev/ram2 4096
mount /dev/ram2 /usr/local
---------------------------------------------
That mounts the ramdisk at /usr/local but you
can mount it wherever you want.

Sure. Mount the floppy, cd to the floppy and
execute the executable. It runs slow off the
floppy but it does work.

Cheers,
