That's not a suitable resolution for the BL3 target
system. I can't even do that resolution on any of
my hardware.

That is what I happened to start with.

zgv is using 3.8% of RAM (192MB) = 7MB
xv 5.6% Xvesa 0.8% xinit 0.4% (no wm) = 13MB

Why are you comparing zgv to xv? The image viewer
in BL3 is xli.

Because that is what the discussion was already about, and I was in BL2 with xv and zgv available. I tried to compare xli to zgv but startx did not work when I was chrooted to BL3.

xv is barely usable in 16MB RAM

I would think that xli running at 800x600x15 would
be considerably better.

640 is also better.

I was pointing out that svgalib viewers took up much less RAM than xv and were therefore useful in low-RAM situations, also for 8-bit color.

Steven included seejpeg in BL1 along with libvga.

I don't think so. BL1 had a much smaller viewer
(I don't recall its name at the moment).

Sorry, I must have added it myself. I think yours only worked in 4-bit color but maybe that could be changed.

viewjpeg: svgalib fileviewer
1.0 Beta1
1995
views jpeg gif bmp xpm xbm targa ppm
netpbm can convert other formats to ppm

xli - a buffer overflow exists ...

xli is a version of xloadimage.
It is supposed to view ppm png gif jfif/jepg targa xpm etc.
Does the BL3 version do all that or was it compiled smaller?

I will reboot and check out RAM usage for it.

Cheers,
Steven
