I feel a rant coming on....
I just had the distinct displeasure of dealing with a MS Powerpoint document with embedded MS Excel documents, with OLE being the glue holding the gunk together.
I fell into the data1.msi trap because I have an old copy of MS Office (Office 2000) mixed with Word 2002, and the OLE installer (because Powerpoint is too lame to actually come with OLE already installed, like Word does) absolutely insisted on that particular file before it would even lift a finger to help.
So then I got the bright idea of trying my copy of OpenOffice (it's the Windows version, but I do have some FreeBSD around here), only to find that OpenOffice also uses OLE.
And now I'm wondering how OpenOffice embeds documents in its native Linux habitat...
