Strange that apparently the name server isn't returning the numerical DNS for any web pages.

It's particularly strange because your name server
works fine for me (even though I am 8,000 miles away).
Are you absolutely sure you were connected when you did:
-----------------------------------
nslookup slashdot.org 64.136.21.200
-----------------------------------
Please try it again. What (exactly) does it say?

(Note to other BL3 users, please try that nslookup line and report here what you get.)

Question: Are you dialing over an ordinary phone line or are you on some sort of networked setup?

Suggestion: When you are connected, make a copy of what
you see when you do:
-----
route
-----

Cheers,
Steven

~/temp<#>nslookup www.cnn.com 64.136.21.200
Server: my.nyc.juno.com
Address: 64.136.21.200

Name: cnn.com
Address: 64.236.24.28

Can't he just hardcode his /etc/resolv.conf:
nameserver 64.136.21.200
