You may find it easier to boot the system in DOS and launch
Linux (when required) by executing loadlin.exe.

I warn you, it's very primitive. If you want a real word
processor, I suggest you try AbiWord. The package can be
downloaded from the BL3 add-ons.

How exactly is it failing? Try accessing them by number rather
than by URL. For example, Slashdot is http://66.35.250.150
Does that work?
How exactly are you connecting? Dial-up modem? Router?
When you are connected, do you see the default route when you do:
