SVGA color? ever played with any of the 18bit modex modes? ;) (18 bit
hi-color -was- possible on standard vga cards... there was also a 16
[128 colors if you played your cards right] color 'graphics' mode on
the original CGA card... wasnt documented other than a breif mention
but programmers figured it out)
http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=590 (use one of the psudocolor
modes... need a decent cpu and an sb card... and pure dos mode...)
the linux options for old macs are slowly but surely maturing... tho a
bug in the 680LC40 makes it horribly insecure for use as a linux box
(makes one wonder about the macos)
also EMILE is out (LILOs little macintosh sister) that can boot linux
without first loading macos... guess im that special kind of sadist ;)
(what? linux is easy!) ... i plan to eventually gut an old mac and
put it in a custom case and make a cd tower out of it... (gotta find
-some- use for all those low end scsi parts) ... that is -if- i can
ever find a 'nubus' network card...
as far as old computers go i -like- my PC collection... you should see
the '3 headed beast' i make common use of (3 seperate networked
computers all on the same desk.. 2 linux 1 windoze) i have many more
pcs than macs... just that macs are the 'new toys in the box' and
therefore are subject to experementation... (and of course
frustration) ;)
as far as pc vs. mac ... ill take pc any day...
