I'm a newbie who installed BL3 on a dell latitude,
pentium 166 laptop. I also used the pentium 1
optimized kernel. The command line interface is just
ok. When running X or icewm however, the cursor seems
to live discolored tracks. I haven't figured out yet
how to configure it with a laptop's trackball, and
LCD. Also, my system hangs when I exit X.

I had problems exiting X with a couple of video cards and the solution is to use a different X server, not the Xvesa that is standard. Try the package no-xvesa.tgz for 800 resolution, after first installing the X server for your card, or the svga X server. If you need or prefer 640 or 800 resolution instead, I posted XF86Config files that worked for me with the SVGA X server at 640 or at 1024 resolution.
(http://keesan.freeshell.org/bl - look for XF86Config.640 or 1024 ).

Your mouse may not be supported by the BL3 kernel. You could try a larger kernel from Slackware 7.1 bare.i directory. I had a couple of laptop trackballs that, when you moved them, caused the cursor to scoot into the corner and stay there, and someone got one of them working with a newer linux.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks
