You need to tell icewm and rxvt where to send their X output:
DISPLAY="127.0.0.1:0" Xvesa & rxvt & icewm -e opera
I tried this and got only an rxvt. Have you tried it?
Change it to:
DISPLAY="127.0.0.1:0" Xvesa & icewm -e opera
Cannot try it right now, I seem to have lost the cursor on my two VGA consoles, something to do with 80x30 and Xvesa. Usually the mda consoles lose the terminal until I log out and in again on VGA. I can't log in on the VGA consoles -
Baslinux login: (I type root)
login[131]: ROOT LOGIN on 'tty4'
And no more cursor. I hit the Enter key a few times and eventually get a prompt at which I cannot type anything. I had better not use Xvesa with 80x30.
Opera won't load unless you specify Xvesa -screen 640x480x16 (or something more than 8-bit color).
The above will not give me an rxvt when I exit opera. I have it to the point where I can load icewm and opera with an alias that involves two rxvt neither of which can be typed in afterwards. Good enough, I should install the icewm menu if I want to use another X program right after opera (or even at the same time, I suppose, though I cannot think of one).
Thanks for your ideas.
Do you then get icewm with opera? You may need to use a shell script
in place of opera, or just use xinitrc after all.
Xvesa & rxvt; command_to_restore_settings (whatever that may be)?
Xvesa&rxvt; resizecons 80x30
This did not work - back to 80x25.
Looks like you'll either have to run it manually, or figure out some
different console settings. [sarcasm] Isn't Xvesa the best?
I had better give up on the 80x30 or Xvesa as they don't mix with cursors and mdacon well. Unpredictable what will go wrong but I have lost two terminals now.
