That is correct (unless you tell it where to
find a remote DNS server). BasicLinux has no
local DNS server.
To use a remote DNS server, put the (numerical)
address in /etc/resolv.conf

BasicLinux has no network servers (it was designed
to be a client) so you will find few ports open.
