I was not watching. There is a third very small partition that the
computer uses for something. Since linux won't boot at all on this computer with lilo or loadlin we will probably change the partition to FAT16 instead of ext2 and make sure it is primary at that time.

One of the two linux-compatible 486s just died. Bad part in the DC to DC convertor so no power to the motherboard, just the batteries.


/dev/hda5 is an extended partition. Are you sure you
selected primary (not extended) in fdisk when you created
your ext2 partition?

As you know, I had problems with extended partitions
in the past and now only use primary partitions.
