And FreeDOS occupies less lower memory.

Be aware that FreeDOS is undergoing constant development, too. They're
preparing for a milestone 1.0 release in the next few months. It's

Our defrag problems occurred because FreeDOS defrag does not apparently deal with long file names and I tried to run it on a partition that had them. Also because FreeDOS ignored the Win98 (and 7.10) lock and blithely went ahead and ran anyway. If they 'fix' that problem it won't work on 7.10 even in situations where you have no LFN or Fat32.

We have only the version you gave us but will download the latest kernel, and maybe not install to anything important until 1.0 arrives.

one of the developers about it, he was encouraging me to download the
latest kernel and version of format which, though only 3 or 4 months old,
had already been updated/superceded.
