What is your route to google.com? If it is via a gateway
on your network, do the following after the ifconfig for
your network card:
---------------------------------
route add default gw 192.168.33.1
---------------------------------
That assumes your gateway address is 192.168.33.1

You should then be able to reach google.com by using the
appropriate (numeric) address. To reach google.com by
name, you need a method to assign an address to the name.
You could do this in /etc/hosts, but it is usually more
convenient to use a name server (DNS). If your network
has a name server, you can utilize it by putting its
address in /etc/resolv.conf

It all depends on what network servers are running on
those machines. FTP? NFS? HTTP? mcserv? telnet?

Cheers,
Steven
