Same results. Black screen, Xvesa results in a segmentation violation.

Any other ideas?

I have come to believe it is a BIOS issue with this particular computer and video chip. I've asked a question on the XFree86 list but haven't gotten any responses.

That doesn't seem to solve the problem in this case.
I am booting Windows 98 into Safe Mode, Command Prompt only.
Are you getting the Segmentation Faults?


i have no idea where the Xvesa program came from
or what version it is

VBE version 1.2 (Cirrus Logic GD-7543 VGA)
DAC is switchable, controller is VGA compatible
Total memory: 960 kilobytes

Xvesa -verbose

Results in a black Screen and the following output

0x00012: 640x480x4 Planar (4 planes) (no linear
frame buffer)
Static Color bpp 4 depth 4
Mode Selected 640x480x4
Previous modes: VBE 0x3 BIOS 0x3
Enable Bios mode 0x12
Segmentation Fault.

Can someone tell me what version of Xvesa is in

BL3,

and where it came from?
