This is all very interesting to read about since I was trying some months
ago to do some sound capture on one of my machines. The input was not
from the internet though, but from an audio output device that I was
playing through the computer (satellite radio and/or tape deck adapted to
the computer's audio-in jack). I actually didn't get very far with it: I
never captured any output, but was keeping half an eye open for
information on how to do this, as well as on converting wav to mp3.
Anyway, some information I ran across in the linux cookbook seemed like it
could be really helpful, though I have never since had time to further
pursue the project and implement the instructions I found there. Take a
look at the linux cookbook part 5 Sound. Maybe that could help folks
accomplish these recording tasks.
