This talk about ltools and rescuing Linux from DOS has got me thinking. I
guess my first question is how helpful DOS could be in rescuing Linux in
this day of large hard drives? I mean, let's say you've got a tiny little
4 o 6 GB drive. Something goes wrong with Linux, but you've got DOS on a
partition on the drive. Aren't you subject to DOS disk size limitations,
even using ltools? Can you access drives larger than 2 GB with it, even
though DOS is limited to that? Finally, let's say one wanted to have a
DOS partition for rescue purposes: what's the best DOS for this? Is
Freedos a viable option? Or should one stick with the mainstream ones -
M$, DRDOS or PCDOS? I've got PTSDOS, but I haven't quite figured out how
batch files are written with it (slightly different syntax than M$ DOS)
and its memory management seems a bit flaky (doesn't work with loadlin; I
have to turn off its memory management to use loadlin to boot Linux). Its
CD driver stinks too (but can be easily replaced by shcdex.exe).
Thanks, James
