We have WORKS for DOS. It can export WORD files, I think. I know it can
export RTF because I have done that (someone with WORD for Mac could not
import WP51/DOS files without buying an expensive filter first so I used
WORKS to import WP51 and export RTF). I would need something that exports
a format which I can send to other people with WORD. Why does Word for
DOS not export formatted files? Are there simply no filters included in
the program or don't they work under dosemu?

I think my best bet is WP51/DOS under dosemu if I can figure out how to
access other partitions. When I mounted a DOS partition to /home/user and
did a dir on it, instead of seeing what was in that partition I saw a
list of what was in linux /tmp (truncated to 8.3 format).

DOS Wordperfect files are also relatively tiny compared to anything made
by Windows.

What do you mean by 'made available' - is WORD 5.5 now free?

The author of flwriter reports that when he has more time he will fix the
bug that made it less usable with plain vga, which somehow crept back in
between the current and the beta version, and put back the RTF import
filter, which he is improving. He will also add more keyboard navigation
based on what is used in OpenOffice. The current version ought to be
usable with BL2 but I have not tried it. Still learning to compile.
