You try to use Java on a Floppy drive?
The J2SDK 1.4.2 is avaible from Sun for various plataforms,
Linux included, there is some info from Sun:

-------------------------------------------------------------
Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition, 1.4.2 is supported on i586
Intel and 100% compatible platforms running Linux. For a
list of supported Linux operating systems and desktop
managers, see System Configurations.

You should have about 75 megabytes of free disk space before
attempting to install the Java 2 SDK software.

A minimum of 32 megabytes of RAM is required. Recommended 48
megabytes of RAM.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Java2 SDK 1.4.2 provides his own Java compiler.

I just have used J2SDK 1.4 in Windows, in my Slackware box I
have only the Java Runtime Enviroment wich is part of J2SDK.
