- Subject: [b-hebrew] Differences Between LXX & MT Hab 2:4?
- Date: Sun, 27 Mar 2011 11:11:56 -0700 (PDT)
Dear Listees,
I translate MT Habakkuk 2:4b as follows: the just shall live by HIS faith &
LXX Habakkuk 2:4b as follows: the just shall live by MY faith.
1. Have I translated these texts correctly? &
2. if I have, is there any significant difference between these two texts?
Very many thanks,
Philip Engmann

Yes, from a literal viewpoint you've translated them correctly.
But from the point of view of sense your translation is bad.
The "mou" in the Greek has to be understood as "in/on Me": "pístis mou" =
the faith (a just has) in me.

Remark: "(en te) agape mou" in John 15:10
"If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept
my Father's commandments and abide in his love"
does not mean Jesus' love onto his disciples but his disciples' love onto
Jesus.
Heartly,
