Do you think that, say, King David spoke to his wives and children "Biblical Hebrew", which he employed so skillfully in composing his Psalms, or did he possibly speak at home a more utilitarian and grammatically tamed Hebrew, akin to the "modern" Hebrew spoken today?

Sure, why not? If it got recorded in a language, chances are somebody spoke that language.
