Let's not forget the Yemenite pronunciation - with a soft "g", with the accent on that "g", and not on the "mar", hence gEmar

1. I have never heard it pronounced gEmar, only gmar.
That's because you're spending your life in Galut, where you hear Ashkenazi pronunciation. I'm sure there's a Sefardi synagogue in your area.
