Hi Dave,
I believe I made it clear from the outset that the best and most faithful
translation we could give is Yhwh. This is all we know with any certainty
about the name.
Also, I think you may be interested to take a look at the archives. You seem
to be assuming that many on this list support the reconstruction Yahweh. If
you check the archives of discussions on the name then you will see that
they are largely dominated by critiques of this reconstruction which many
list members (myself included) do not accept. The most popular data cited
against such a reconstruction are the theophoric components of Hebrew names.
You are not presenting anything new Dave. Many of us share your doubts and
have expressed them on many an occasion.
