Dear Rev. B. William,
Per your request, here are the references for "zmn":
1. Database query to Semitic etymology, Compiled by Alexander Militarev # 878
http://starling.rinet.ru/cgi-bin/response.cgi?root=config&morpho=0&basename=%5Cdata%5Csemham%5Csemet&first=861
(Note, the term is found in ALL the Semitic branches.)
2. The Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon p. 273-74, corresponding to Strong's # 2163 (a primitive root; to fix (a time): appoint)
3. In Lisan al-`arab vol., III p. 48-49.
In Classical Arabic "zaman" has a wide range of meanings:
May refer to the Arabian calendar in relation to the solar or Lunar years (four quarters: spring, summer, autumn, and winter & six seasons). The periods of the rain, the regular months.
Being afflicted with a chronic disease of long continuance like a chronic cough, can refer to stale water, an evil affliction, disability, a curse, a calamity. Azman & zaman refer to a long time ago, epoch, era or a period in time. Sometimes can refer to fortune and fate and even love. Also the life time of a person.
Forms: zaman, zaman, 'Azman and muzmin .
4- Arabic English lexicon by Ed. William Lane vol., I p. 1253-54
I hope this helps,
Best regards
