- Subject: [b-hebrew] NXR a verb?
- Date: Mon, 8 Jun 2009 11:45:13 -0700
While reading Song of Songs 1:6 I came across the verb NXR followed by
an object signified with a B- prefix.
The dictionaries I consulted say it is either a niphal of XRH “to
become hot (in anger, heat of emotion, “hot under the collar”)” or HRR
“to parch (hot & dry) hence to make (a voice) horse”. Neither seems to
fit the context.
I notice there are two other examples of NXR B-, in Isaiah 41:11 and 45:24.
Other possible uses are Jeremiah 6:29, Ezekiel 15:4, Psalm 102:3 and Job
39:20.
Are there any clues from cognate languages that say NXR is a verb? If
so, ideas as to its meaning?
