Jim,
Rolf Furuli: You wrote: “By way of conclusion I will say: There is no way to prove that the Pentateuch was written in the 15th century by a man called Moses. And conversely - and this is also corroborated by the lack of scientific tests of my hypothesis proposed by list-members - it cannot be proved that the Pentateuch was written at a later time.”
Not true. The Patriarchal narratives could not possibly have been composed prior to the mid-14th century BCE. All of the specific historical events recorded in the received text of the Patriarchal narratives occurred in the mid-14th century BCE, and could not have been known in the 15th century BCE.

HH: This is not true. They did not necessarily occur in the mid-14th century. The fact that such a coalition happened in the 14th century indicates that it could have happened earlier, too. The biblical dates for Abraham suggest that he was born in 2166 B.C. and died in 1991 B.C. So the events in Genesis 14 happened long before the 15th century, according to the biblical evidence.

Yours,
Harold Holmyard
