Very true, Bryant. Whether or not one presupposes that the biblical text was written prophetically by people with more than just human knowledge is very important for understanding the text. It's the main difference between a "religious" and a "secular" understanding of the text. In the end, it's either or, not both. Which does not mean that a person who is personally "religious" cannot engage in "secular" scholarship. Just that in order to do so, he must accept the rules. And vice versa.
