I agree here, Karl, but I think the habit of the Israelites as evidenced in
their texts was a conspicuous absence (if not avoidance) of abstraction in
b-hebrew. Quite the opposite, the b-hebrew is imbued with concreteness
including in its acceptance of supernatural realities (i.e., Good or Evil).
It seems, the Greek thoughforms are almost always preoccupied with
abstractions like we see in the English.
On an unrelated but interesting note, I had occasion to read this
(http://journals.tc-library.org/index.php/tesol/article/view/108/107) in
preparation for a book review elsewhere.

I also don't buy into the belief that the ancients did not have a good
sense of the abstract as well as the concrete, therefore if a term
indicates an understanding of abstract concepts, I do not speculate
concrete basis for those abstractions.
