@Vadim & SB:
Vadim, you said YHWH offered an oath? If you think that then YHWH did not
answer Moses' question so to speak. And where are you getting the "as I
live" part?
@SB: Sure i will look this up in archives, but I don't think "I will be who
I will be" makes sense.

Jack (et al.),
I haven't been following the ambiguity thread closely, but having =20
written a whole book about ambiguity in Genesis 12-36, I would =20
definitely agree with you, Jack, on the presence of puns and double =20
entendres in Genesis, along with plenty of other ambiguities.
For what it's worth, some scholars recognize in Hebrew poetry a =20
variety of parallelism that they call "Janus parallelism," which =20
precisely exploits polysemy so that one word can stand in synonymous =20
parallelism to two other words that are not necessarily synonymous =20
with each other. C. H. Gordon is sometimes credited with introducing =20
this idea to modern scholarship. The most recent scholarly article on =20
Janus parallelism (as far as I know) is D. T. Tsumura, "Janus =20
parallelism in Hab. iii 4," Vetus Testamentum 54 (2004) 124-128, =20
where Tsumura proposes to solve an old exegetical difficulty by =20
recourse to Janus parallelism (rather than emendation or arbitrary =20
narrowing of the sense of =D7=A7=D7=A8=D7=A0=D7=99=D7=9D QRNYM. =
Articles on Janus =20
parallelism have also been published in JBL, BZ, and Hebrew Studies =20
by J. Kselman, S. Noegel, D. Christensen, G. Rendsburg, and Tsumura. =20
These authors (and the peer reviewers) are not lightweights, and =20
their careful demonstrations of biblical poets exploiting verbal =20
ambiguity for artistic purposes ought to be taken seriously.
