Does "IaBe" = "YHWH" or does "IaBe" = "Jove"?
Josephus Book 12, Chapter 5 quotes the Samaritans as saying [under
duress]:
>>>
We therefore beseech thee, our benefactor and saviour,
to give order to Apolonius, the governor of this part of the country,
and to Nicanor, the procurator of thy affairs,
to give us no disturbances,
nor to lay to our charge what the Jews are accused for,
since we are aliens from their nation and from their customs,
but let our temple which at present hath no name at all,
be named the Temple of Jupiter Hellenius.
>>>
The God of Jupiter is said to be named “Jove”.
“Jove” is thought to be pronounced similar to “IaBe”
Some sources recommend pronouncing the "o" in "Jove" as "ah",
but instead try pronouncing the “o” in “Jove”, like the “o” in “Joshua”
e.g. J(awe)v(eh)

To be redundant:
Does "IaBe" = "YHWH" or does "IaBe" = "Jove"?

Martin:

It is my impression that the original Hebrew was pronounced=20
with every syllable consisting of a consonant followed by a=20
vowel, even at the ends of words. What that vowel was,=20
"modern" pointing no longer shows. I suspect that all nouns=20
may have ended with a -a or -e, names possibly -u. Thus the=20
original word spelled as aleph beth (alepa beta) would have=20
been given the pronunciation of aba. But by the time of Jesus,=20
only a handful of the most common words still retained their=20
original pronunciation, such as father.

Does not the final aleph in Aramaic refer to the definite=20
article? If so, then abba would mean "the father" which sounds=20
awfully formal.

Karl W. Randolph.
