Actually, I use a combination of both. The context is of course the ultimate
determinant, however the contexts indicating meaning of other words from the
same roots can often help in the understanding of a word being examined. That
is especially true for a term that is used ten times or fewer, as is (LMH.
And sometimes the meaning determined by a word seldom used can indicate a
nuance that enriches the understanding of the root and/or more commonly used
word from the same root. Thus, I use both.
