Does anyone know of an email list for massoretic studies?
My BHS on Ex 28:32 indicates that there are six times in Torah in which the
word lo spelled lamed-waw is immediately followed by the word lo spelled
lamed-alef; but I have found seven such instances (Gen 28:1, Gen 47:18, Ex
28:32,
Deut 21:16, Deut 23:17, Deut 25:5, Deut 32:5). The only verse of these
which does not have the same massoretic note is Deut 21:16. (Although in
that
verse there is an athnaH on the first lo, that is also the case in Deut
23:17,
so apparently that is not an issue.)

Actually, I think the joker in the deck is Deut 32:5, which the Mp notes
as the only usage written thus - perhaps because this is the only instance
in which the first lamed-was does not have a disjunctive accent. In other
words, in six cases the two words are separated by the accentuation, while
in Deut 32:5 the two words are conjoined by the accents.

In my edition of BHS, Deut 21:16 is marked by the Mp note "4 times in
Torah," while the other 5 instances (Gen 28:1; 48:17; Exod 28:32;
Deut 23:17; 25:5) each have the Mp note "6 times in Torah" - so Deut 21:16
does have a different number assigned to it, but Deut 32:5 has an entirely
different note.

Unfortunately, this is unhelpful information for discerning the intent of
the Masortes :-)
