Ain't that the truth! And thanks for sharing this anecdote. I thought I was the only one irritated by dilettantish know it alls. There's nothing more profoundly ignorant than quoting someone like Strong's and pretending that one knows a biblical language while never having taken the time to seriously study it. And the remarkable thing is that such folk will argue with you till they are blue in the face. Ugh.

Jim don't get started by naming Strong's. :) I have had people quote me 5 different meanings in Strong's and then decide which one they think it means, with the nuance that English has for the word. They totally forget that a word in Hebrew has it's own nuances that do not correspond to the word that is used in English. (BTW I once had a discussion with an Arabic speaker, and that was great since the nuances and words are similar.)
