horses" and to understand X"YLW as referring to the warriors who rode in
the chariots -- no foot soldiers involved. The fact that this is a
pursuit of a group which already had a head start would indicate that
speed was of the essence and would thus militate against the use of
foot. <

Chariots alone cannot fight a battle.

Is this based on something in the text?

Dear list,

HH; First, the text does not say that the=20
chariots became stuck in the mud. It says God=20
make the chariot wheels come off so that it was=20
difficult to steer the chariots:

Ex. 14:25 He made the wheels of their chariots=20
come off so that they had difficulty driving. And=20
the Egyptians said, "Let's get away from the=20
Israelites! The LORD is fighting for them against=20
Egypt."

HH: There is no mention of mud. While that is a=20
possible explanation, God may have directly=20
caused the wheels to come off.

HH: Second, the idea that this is not a miracle=20
contradicts the Bible. The Bible repeats again=20
and again that these events are miraculous:

Ex. 10:1 =B6 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to=20
Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the=20
hearts of his officials so that I may perform=20
these miraculous signs of mine among them
Ex. 10:2 that you may tell your children and=20
grandchildren how I dealt harshly with the=20
Egyptians and how I performed my signs among=20
them, and that you may know that I am the LORD."

HH: Third, it is quite obvious that all the Egyptians died, the whole army:

Ex. 14:28 The water flowed back and covered the=20
chariots and horsemen - the entire army of=20
Pharaoh that had followed the Israelites into the=20
sea. Not one of them survived.

Yours,
Harold Holmyard
