Yigal,

In addition to what Tony has mentioned, I wonder if there might be some
Exodus imagery playing as well, with the various "three days" mentions
in that narrative, in particular, the three day journey into the
wilderness, and the three days wait before crossing the Jordan (Exod
3:18; 5:3; 8:27; 15:22; Num 10:33; 33:8; Josh 1:11; 2:16, 22; 3:2).
Perhaps three days is a kind of standard preparation time.
