Apparently there is no clear clue from cognate languages either.

Here’s a case where I’m reading my own reactions into the verse, for if I
were to observe justice being bent by bribes (cf. Prov. 17:23), I would be
furious. Therefore the dictionary definition doesn’t make sense. “A gift in
secret” looks like a parallelism for a bribe.

(Could the Akkadian cognate term actually be related to HPK “to turn over”
instead of KPH?)
