not only printed material...

as it happens, i am now at cambridge university library, examining some geniza
manuscripts (and reading b-hebrew!). the alef-lamed combination is extant in
almost all the fragments i've checked (some 50-70), some of them date back to
the tenth and ninth centuries CE.
