struggling with the versions will not bring you closer to the meaning of the
underlying hebrew text- it will only open a window on the interpretive
understanding of the translator. that said, i think the hebrew text is
fairly clear-- and the kjv is correct (!) in rendering "against". the
prepositional phrase (here) in hebrew almost always connotes opposition.
that the versions do different things does not necessarily mean there is a
different hebrew Vorlage.
