The point was that Ian was claiming that statues of Cicero and
Augustus were evidence that they lived. Possibly, but I was quite
agreeing with you that such evidence is very dubious.

I hope you are not arguing that a statue implies that we are dealing with a
real person. Homer talks about many gods whio haev satues,a nd then about
some of their actions. I think we have to distinguish here.
