If you take the recorded spoken words with the Tetragrammaton, it would seem
that
the original speakers had no such moratorium. Look at Josh 24:15, Joshua
says it
twice in the same verse. If he said ADONAY, why did they not record that?
Does the
MT replace any occurrences of YHWH? Does the LXX use Curios instead? I
have heard
it was converted to Lord when reading aloud. Today the current usage is
HASHEM, 'the name'.
When did that start? Also, why would English speakers write God, as G-d?
If there something
more reverent about YHWH, why would the replacement word in English require
not writing it out?
I have heard there is a superstition that if you were to write out the
actual name of God, the
creation would cease. I don't know where this comes from.
