No I don't think that's what Michael said: but rather that if _paying
customers_ (which he has, as some percentage of all users) demand certain set
of functionality (Java 5 enabled access; support for JDK 1.2), he can
determine whether there's pay off there. And for others, they "get what they
get".
I don't see this as unconvinging at all.
This does not preclude any particular feature per se, just means he can
prioritize things based on economics. That is, by the way, not very different
from how bigger enterprise companies do to.
Ever tried to get extended support from Oracle or Sun? You pay through your
nose to be a platinum customer, and you are listened to bit more than bronze
customer, who gets slightly more attention than Billy-Bob who bought his Sun
work stations second hand from eBay.

Compare this to, say, my open source work, where I literally have no paying
customers: that's probably what you had in mind. But I'm not claiming any
enterprise status, beyond noting plenty of enterprises do use the software
for free.
