No problems with glib 2.17...

However it didn't solve anything.

Apparently I can select pentium-m, neither native, as architectures
for this pentium-m laptop, :-(, at least not if I want java enabled
(everything else compiled and installed and apparently works)...

So I'll be reverting to i686, and doing "sorcery -r", to see if I can
get to the state I was before specifying architectures corresponding
to the laptop's processor. Ironically I believed things could only
get better by selecting architectures closer to the processor one.
It'll take like a week, so I won't know till then...

Definitely not what I wanted, but it's taking too much time without success.
