Clue awareness, map and compass, riding, are among other skills, parts of
the searcher's tool kit. As such they can be taught as separate skills in
the classroom and then in limited practical exercises, such as mounted
orienteering, rallies, paper chases.

The purpose of a mock search is to put all the skills to use as they would
be in the field. "Train as you fight, fight as you train" is the key.
The field exercise should be as realistic as possible. Part of the TLAER
training involves packaging an injured horse on a slide at night in rough
terrain after a search. But these people are not trained searchers, they
are animal rescuers. The only criteria for the scenario is that the mock
victim(s) do not become real victims.

This will require you to have a victim, a search CP, field tasks, paperwork,
and an overseeing exercise staff to evaluate, and back up the safety officer
if he decides to stop a task as well as backups to do real rescue,
extrication, or medical evacuations if someone gets hurt.
