I have had branches poke through my neckerchief and other parts of my
clothing. I suppose if it can happen, it will. When I finally broke down
and got a helmet, I tried on all kinds of them priced from $35 to $100. I
found the cheapest one, the Truxel was the most comfortable. That is what I
wear religiously when training colts. I am guilty of wearing my western hat
or ball cap when riding seasoned mules and horses. Funny thing, I may have
mentioned it earlier, but my vented Troxel helmet is a little warmer than
wearing the ball cap. I still found it to be comfortable last summer in the
heat as well. When looking for an equestrian helmet, be sure to get an
EQUESTRIAN helmet. Not something that might make do. There is a reason
they are built for riding. Not mountain climbing, motorcycle riding or
bicycling.
