I know from experience that if you do decide to get a fox trotter please do
not take looks, high price, and bloodlines into account. My last job was
working for a hunting ranch. I was in charge of 5 fox trotters and 1
tennessee walker (that soon got traded badly for a fox trotter). From this
experience I will give you what I learned

1) I'm sure you already know but high price does not mean good quality but
this I have to say over and over because it never got through to my last
boss

2) If you have the time and energy, buying an unbroken 2yr old (preferably
not a "pet") and training him/her would be the best. They definitely have
much more drive to please you if you are the primary trainer (not saying
there cannot be any others)

3) Nice bloodlines are of course nice but as I've said of the price I think
you already know where I'm going here. If a horse is good. A horse is
good. Unless there is going to be breeding later on who cares who is in
their bloodlines (I'm not talking about "line breeding")

I think what I'm trying to get across is that don't underestimate any breed
for the job. There may be great attributes from fox trotters that are good.
Well, there are great things from almost every breed to bring into MSAR.
Why have any pure bred horse at all? What ever became wrong with a cross?
And no, this is not by any means saying anything demeaning to fox trotters.
Personal opinion of course and always
