"Now you may think to yourself "Una inexperienced? Nah." but in many
respects I am deeply ignorant."

Una,
Many years ago I was presented with a basic tenet that has served me
well as an instructor - Military, Business, S.O., SAR Academies (160-180
hours each) and through two Border Patrol SAR Academies. It helped me
to not expect either too much OR too little from others. When it comes
to "knowledge" there are 4 basic classifications:

UNCONSCIOUSLY INCOMPETENT:
You don't know, but you don't know that "you don't know". A toddler
doesn't know how to tie his\her shoes, he's incompetent, but doesn't
know and doesn't care.

CONSCIOUSLY INCOMPETENT:
The toddler starts kindergarten and sees others tying their own
shoes. Now, he\she is aware that they "don't know" and can't do what
others can. Not only is this upsetting to him\her, they want to learn!

CONSCIOUSLY COMPETENT:
Through learning, experience and help from others, they can now tie
their own shoes....They are Consciously Competent, but have to "look"
at, and think about, each step necessary to tie the knot. (Usually
accompanied by the tongue sticking out of the side of the mouth!)

UNCONSCIOUSLY COMPETENT:
As they grow and gain experience, lo and behold they can tie those
shoes in the middle of the night and while half asleep (Sound like a
0200 Search Activation?) without even thinking about it!

I've never taught a class, or had a student, from whom I didn't learn
something new....whether it was a whole new idea, or just a better way
to teach. Being Consciously Incompetent is a beautiful thing, as it's
only from there can we continue to learn, improve, and continue to grow.
There is a HUGH difference between being "ignorant" and Consciously
Incompetent, and its one of the things that prevents the ego eats brain
syndrome.

Welcome to the World of the Consciously Incompetent. Keep on Learning
and Growing!!!
