Keep in mind that the weakness in all these tools is the wood handle where it joins the steel. Anyone can break the handle off any tool by exceeding the strength of the wood. In tough soil, I've found it works better to plunge the fork part way in and "break it back" a bit. Then plunge some more and repeat until at the right depth- less stress on tools & growers.
